HR&PC History

Hildenborough Rifle & Pistol Club was opened in 1907 by Lord Hardinge.

In the mid 1970s, it was decided to create a section which catered for small-bore pistols in the existing range. Some years later, an additional section was formed in response to the interest of some members in small-bore sporting rifles.

As the result of developments at the original site in 1985, the club was requested to consider moving to an alternative location and it was decided to take advantage of this opportunity to build an improved range. A suitable site was found and work began to construct a purpose-built 25 yard indoor range, that would accommodate full-bore pistol as well as small-bore shooting. A six-metre air firearms range was also created in a converted outbuilding.

The new premises were formally opened on 24th November 1987 and continues to provide some of the best facilities in the Southeast.

The club has developed its interest in sporting rifles and has now extended its approvals to accommodate full-bore ‘gallery’ rifles. Limited pistol shooting still takes place by those who possess muzzle loading pistols which have been converted to use nitro powder and also long-barrelled cartridge pistols; both types of pistol are completely legal and can be safely used in our range.

HR&PC has adapted and extended its shooting disciplines to provide facilities for the sport of target shooting. At present, the range is available for small-bore target rifle shooting and provides facilities for sporting rifle shooting, both small-bore and full-bore, plus muzzle-loading and CO2 pistols. In addition, the club makes regular bookings at Bisley for members to shoot at distances of up to 1000 yards.

The club is affiliated to the NRA and is Home Office approved for small-bore rifles, full-bore rifles, and muzzle loading pistols. HR&PC operates in a controlled and safe manner, and the club’s rules and regulations ensure that our sport continues to be one of the safest around. Many members are qualified Range Conducting Officers (RCO's) and all firing details are controlled in a formal and disciplined manner to provide a safe and enjoyable sport.
